List: 10 THINGS that make weekends even better

7 Jan

With all the talk of New Year’s Resolutions, it’s reminded me how much I like lists. They’re easier to read than paragraphs, and they’re much, MUCH easier to write. So this month, in addition to my regular babble about life, I’m going to share a few random lists with you.

List #1: 10 Things That Make Weekends Even Better Have the Ability to Ruin Your Weekend

  1. NPR’s weekend programming*
  2. Apple products*
  3. Bathtubs & books
  4. A garbage chute
  5. Scented candles
  6. Lamby
  7. Animals that let me touch them
  8. Jasmine tea
  9. The weather
  10. Yoga

*NPR and Apple almost canceled each other out and got eliminated from my list because today’s This American Life was about the sweatshops in China where Apple products are made. Ergo, today’s dose of irony: Apparently sweatshops make my weekend better, while people working in sweatshops don’t know what weekends are.

Great, now I feel like an asshole.

And sadly, Apple probably does a better job than most trying to make sure its vendors follow fair labor practices.

I love all items on this list that apply to my life (things that don’t: Apple products, garbage chute, jasmine tea). I absolutely adore Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, but This American Life can be kind of hit-or-miss for me. Nothing like the downer of kids sewing soccer balls with their teeth to ruin a perfectly good comedy vibe.

Yes. I’m good at administering my own guilt – don’t like to get bitch-slapped with it while enjoying my favorite things on a snuggly Saturday morning, thanks.

I don’t know, I love me some This American Life. Sure, they’re not all solid gold, but I’d say more often than not I’m glad I heard it.

Always a bummer, though, if you listen to it Saturday, then turn it on Sunday and – oh, right – just heard this.

Byron – just me, or do you also have fantasies about working for TAL? Ira Glass is my hero.

Well I think I can agree with you in some points.

I really like your cat spa image. It gives me some ideas I will need to discuss with my cats 🙂

Great – the iPad that I got Jason for Christmas came directly from China. (I tracked its travel via UPS.) Now I’m going to feel guilty every time I look at it. Damn you Apple!

Let’s agree to pretend iPads are manufactured in Kentucky, shall we?
